Yankee Candle Star Anise & Orange - Review
Hi guys and welcome back!
New Yankee Candle review, for the Christmas 2017 series.
Today we are sniffing Star Anise & Orange, released in the 2016 Christmas collection Holiday Party.
Yankee Candle's description is:
"A juicy slice of fresh orange cooled by the sweet anise - refreshing!
Top notes: juicy orange, and anise mandarin.
Mid notes: clove.
Base notes: sandalwood, and vanilla."
From the first sniff of the jar...an anise symphony! I am a sucker for star anise and I love using the dried fruits for preparing an infusion with a hint of cinnamon (very good in summer too because it has a really refreshing taste). So, buying a jar (medium in this case) was a moral duty.
Once burnt, the fragrance is spectacular: the citrus notes stay in the background (like the spicy ones, that are almost non-perceivable) and allow the anise to stand out. In my mind I was surrounded by the small anise candies I used to eat as a child...just delicious!
So you can see my despair when, once lit, the intensity of the fragrance didn't live up to the expectations.
In a small space it can still respectably fill the air, but moved to a wider room (like a living room, for instance), the scent just gets lost.
However, I couldn't resign myself to the idea of not fully enjoying this fragrance so I tried one move as last resort: I took some of the wax from the jar (using a knife Psycho-style) and I burnt it on the wax burner.
This way the situation improved and the fragrance spread out in a better way (even in more spacious rooms). However, this is still what I would define as a "background" scent, which is never going to completely fill a room (at least not the ways I have tried it).
Therefore, this is still a very good scent but I would suggest it if you like to have just the hint of a fragrance in the air (nothing invasive). For instance, now I am using it in the kitchen where, after dinner, it gives the air a nice scented shade.
Let me know if you have tried this fragrance in a jar (maybe I was the unlucky one...) or in other formats (maybe the tart is a game changer!) and if you have liked it!
Cheers
Francesca
